It’s the weekend….

it's the weekend

Oh and the school holidays start!! Da da daaaaa!! It’s brilliant to have such a great start to the summer, with all this sun we have been down the beach most days after the boys have finished school. Living on the south coast of England is such a dream.

The World Cup kept us pretty occupied while it was on. Maybe football didn’t come home but I think the team did us proud! It was great to all get behind England and we loved it in our house. We had the lucky bunting up and had a great time watching so many matches. Being a mixed heritage household we had different teams to support but England were the most successful.

This weekend we are going to the Sorted in Dorset family festival in hamworthy Park which looks set to be a lot of fun. I remember going to that park when I was little as we had a beach hut there, so it’s going to be quite nostalgic too.

In the garden I’m going to have a good root around my plants. The success story there this week are my tomatoes.

It’s the weekend....

With all of this lovely hot sun they are growing beautifully. Another week or so and they should start to ripen up to a rich red!

Not as lucky are my purple brussel sprouts. The delicate but deadly cabbage white butterfly managed to lay their eggs and the caterpillars 🐛 had a feeding frenzy before I could pick them all off.

It’s the weekend....

That’s the thing with my version of organic gardening, I haven’t put anything other than water on the plants and deal with the bugs by picking them and putting them up the end of the garden. I still have my fingers crossed that my aim of have home grown brussel sprouts as part of my christmas dinner roast will actually happen.

All in all this weekend will be out in the fresh air as much as possible. A great start to the summer holidays.

  1. Those cabbage loopers are annoying. We put netting over our collards this year and that did the trick. It was so worth it. I’ll put net over my kale and broccoli next year, too. Bugs in organic gardening… well there’s a reason they call them pests!

    1. Too true! I’m still pulling caterpillars off now. I didn’t know their season was so long!

  2. Those tomatoes are looking awesome! Our garden is just kind of dead at the moment – dry grass and not a lot else. Maybe next year! #KCACOLS

  3. That’s why my fingers aren’t green… can’t be doing with picking off caterpillars! Well done you though. and here’s to fresh air and fun! #kcacols

  4. We are lucky with where we live for the summer aren’t we. The tomatos look like they are coming on really well.

  5. Those tomatoes look awesome and it all looks like great fun! I had high hopes of starting a garden this summer… It is on the list of to-do’s! You have me inspired! xoxo #KCACOLS xo

    1. My to-do list has lots on it as well:) one day I’ll get round to them, that’s the fun of having lists:)

  6. I’ve been loving the sun although the heat has aggravated my migraines and I’m trying to do up and pack up my house ready for sale so I’m grateful for some rain and cooler temps. I’m well jel of your tomatoes! Our carrots failed because we didn’t plant them in a deep enough container. And after putting a decent effort into the potatoes they only yielded 4 new potatoes. George loved seeing that we had grown edible food though. Not that he wanted to try it.

Thanks for linking up to #KCACOLS

    1. Oh goodness, sorry to hear about your migraines particularly when you’ve got a house move to sort. I love that the kids can see the process of growing good too, 4 potatoes 🥔 are still a plateful, well done!

  7. Oh I love brussel sprouts too. Those look just like mine, all eaten up by pesky caterpillars that better have turned into some beautiful butterflies now that they destroyed my sprouts too. And something else has eaten all my cherry tomatoes. It’s either a bird or my dog! #KCACOLS

    1. Aahh no that’s a shame, made me smile though the thought of a dog gently pulling off the cherry tomatoes probably knowing they dare not get caught!
